INTRODUCTION

Kodashi Parvatha – KODACHADRI
Kodachadri is a mountain peak with dense forests in the Western Ghats in Shimoga Dist., Karnataka State). It is located at a distance of 21 km from Kollur. There are different routes to reach the Peak of Kodachadri and the difficulty varies highly with respect to the route chosen. Situated in the middle of the Mookambika National Park and considered as a biodiversity hotspot, it is home to several endemic and endangered species of flora and fauna. The peak is barren due to strong winds and the thick forest cover at the base makes the peak invisible from lower ground level and also several other smaller peaks and hills exist around the peak. The important animal life include Malabar Langur, Malabar Pied Hornbill, Malabar Grey Hornbill, Paradise flycatcher, Tiger, Leopard, Asian Elephant, Hyena, Gaur, Indian rock python and many more, of which several are threatened. Best time to trek is between October to February.

WHEN TO VISIT:

Best time to trek is between October to February. The terrain and weather both will act friendly for the trek. 
Temperature varies between 18*C to 25*C.
March to May: Peak summer, not advised to trek during this period of the year.

June to September: As the Monsoon arrives, Rainfall gradually increases. Some adventure lovers want to experience the Rain trek, but it advised to be prepared to maintain health and also take care of Leech bites.

WHAT TO CARRY:

  • 50 ltr<n backpack – good strong sturdy backpack
  • Comfortable cotton/synthetic (only because it dries faster) clothing – pants and t shirts – 2 sets
  • Cap
  • Flashlight-Torch (Mobile torch is not valid)
  • Rain gear (Avoid Umbrella during hiking)
  • Cotton socks + Comfortable shoes/ Floaters or sandals to wear when you are not hiking and in the water
  • Extra buckles, needle and thread to repair your backpack
  • Toilet kit
  • Water bottle 1-2Ltr

Keynote:

  • You are in nature at its purest form, so expect to see a lot of new and unusual things if you are a first timer (Topography, flora and fauna, people, and culture).
